Welcome to the website of the Revue pyrénéenne

The Revue pyrénéenne, quarterly review of the Alpine clubs of Occitanie and Nouvelle-Aquitaine in France, is every 3 months covering the following activities: hiking, climbing, mountaineering, ski touring, snowshoeing, ice climbing, fauna, flora, history, pyreneanism, news, books, clubs…

The Revue pyrénéenne is one of the oldest printed magazines dealing with the Pyrenees. This quarterly comes from the bulletin founded in 1877 by the Sud-Ouest (Bordeaux) section of the French Alpine Club (CAF). It was renamed Revue pyrénéenne in 1952 under the initiative of its founder and first redactor, Pierre Marlier. Written by volunteers and without any profit, this mountain magazine is edited by the association Les Amis de la Revue pyrénéenne [The Friends of the Revue pyrénénne -(LARP)], a gathering of clubs from the French Federation of Alpine and Mountain Clubs (FFCAM) .

With the slogan “The Pyrenees by those who live them”, this pyrenean magazine aims to promote human, cultural, sporting, scientific or other activities concerning the Pyrenean chain or its environment. Like mountain sports, which have become more democratic, the journal is today far from the elitist spirit that prevailed at its origins 140 years ago, like those who practiced mountaineering.

The review reflects, issue after issue, all the diversity of practices according to the seasons in the Pyrenees. It alternates with summer (hiking, climbing, mountain biking, gliding, mountaineering …) or winter activities (ski touring, snowshoeing, ice climbing, dry-tooling, speleology…), under the form of narratives, new routes descriptions, portraits of historical of current climbers, historical stories, fauna and flora…

It also regularly echoes the controversies which animates the life of the chain. Some pages are dedicated to « distant expeditions » led by Pyreneans. The Revue pyrénéenne is also meant for people who are foreign to the chain, but who share the same passion for the mountains, continuing the tradition of open-mindedness that has characterized the practice of mountaineering in the Pyrenees since its inception. It also offers a selection of books on the Pyrenees, among the novelties, and has been a partner since 2014 of the Pyrenean Book Fair in Bagnères-de-Bigorre.

At the rate of 44 pages in 21 × 29.7 format on glossy paper, fully four-color since 2016 and no advertising on its inside pages, the Revue pyrénéenne publishes four issues per year (March, June, October, December).
